| I would like to congratulate November's
winner of the Sony monitor giveaway, BKA Architecture from Brockton,
Massachusetts. Don't forget, you still have one more month left
to qualify, so visit www.nemetschek.net/10.5update/giveaway.html.
Our firm profile this month features our October winner, Living-Architects
from London, England.
Thanks to everyone who came out to see us during Build Boston
at our event at the Seaport Hotel. We had about 45 VectorWorks
users in attendance and everyone agreed that this was a great
opportunity to chat with NNA staff and other users. Our next event
will be in San Francisco during the Macworld show. The venue has
not been firmed up yet, but as soon as it is- we'll post information
on our website. Feel free to check back with our Sales department
for details when they're ready, and for free passes to Macworld.
Since the holiday season is upon us, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you the best, and to send warm wishes for a safe and prosperous new year from everyone here at NNA. Our general office will be closed December 25 until January 2, however there will be members of our sales staff available during that time, at 888-646-4223. |

| PROJECT
PROFILE |
Hammersmith
and Fulham
London, England
PROJECT:
The Townmead Estate
England |
The Townmead Estate is a housing estate built in the 1960s by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham to house low income families and those on the Borough's housing waiting list. The buildings suffer a variety of structural and other constructional problems and the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham decided to redevelop the site in Partnership with the Shepherds Bush Housing Association.
The design has evolved with the active participation of community representatives, local politicians, representatives of the Borough's Housing Department, Town Planners, the Police, and other organizations. |
 |
The proposals involve retaining the 20 story tower block called Barton House, but carrying out some essential repairs within the Barton House flats (i.e. apartments).
The rest of the buildings on the site will be demolished and replaced with 148 houses and flats to house people from the waiting list. There will also be some shops, a group doctor's surgery and health center, and a community center and nursery. The underground car park (which is currently closed because of security worries) will be refurbished and brought back into use.
The new buildings will be arranged around a central amenity space including a ball court.
|
 |
The Townmead Estate is in what was once a predominantly working class area of London. Rising house prices in this part of London have pushed many low and middle income families out of the area. The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham wanted to preserve the community as much as possible. In order to do this it is necessary to provide affordable homes. The scheme increases the number of homes on the site by 50%. Despite this, they have managed to make sure that all the larger family houses on the site each have a private garden.

| How can I view SpotLight Gobo texture thumbnails in the Resource Browser? |
Launch VectorWorks SpotLight,
and then select File > Open. Navigate to the Textures folder located
inside the VectorWorks folder. (figure

Select one of the texture files, and then click Open. Verify that the Resource Browser displays the selected texture file. This file contains several textures. (figure
2)
Select one of the textures. Select Edit from the Resources menu. In the Edit Texture dialog box, change the Preview Options for Obj Type to Sphere and Obj Size to two inches.
(figure
3)
Click OK. The preview image now displays in the Resource Browser. (figure
4)
Continue this process for all the textures in that file. Save
the file. When you access that file in the Resource Browser, the
preview images are now visible. |
| How do
I create a hybrid symbol? |
| A hybrid symbol is one that includes both 2D and 3D components. To create a hybrid symbol, create the 3D part, then the 2D part in Top/Plan view. Once drawn, align the 2D and 3D parts using the Tool > Align command, and select them all. Switch to 2D Plan projection. Run the Create Symbol command from the Organize menu. The hybrid symbol is now available in the Resource Browser. |
| From the Tech Support Team.... |
| If the Macintosh updater for any version of VectorWorks 10 does not work, uninstall VectorWorks and then reinstall VectorWorks from your CD. Then, before running the application, install any available updates.
When sending an e-mail to Tech Support, please make sure you include the VectorWorks version number, the operating system version, and complete steps to reproduce your problem. Including this information will help us get an answer to you more quickly. |
