Q: The Sign tool doesn't seem to be working correctly.
A: The Location module consists of two key components, the Sign tool and the sign location template file. The Sign tool allows you to create a sign "tag" and manage the sign data. The Sign location template file consists of the Sign class catalog, the sign symbol library, and the pre-formatted sign location schedules. For the Sign tool to work, you must be working in a Sign Location Template, and not a blank document. File< New, from the Create Document dialog box, choose SLP Template.sta from the Template pull-down.
Q: Can I edit the default sign class catalog?
A: Yes. The signs in the default sign class catalog are completely editable. You can easily edit the sign type code and sign description. However, names in the catalog do follow a strict naming convention. The class names must start with a prefix. The default prefix is "ST" for "sign type," and there must be a separator between the sign type code and the sign's description. The default separator is "\\." The Location Planning Module manual describes how to can change the prefix and separator, but, for most users, this isn't necessary. When adding new sign to the catalog, we recommend duplicating one of the existing signs and then simply changing the sign type code and sign description in the duplicated name.
Q: Are the symbols in the sign symbol library editable?
A: Yes. You can easily edit the existing symbol, as well as add your own custom sign symbols. The Vectorworks online help has detailed information on how to edit and create symbols.
Q: Why are there three sign location schedules?
A: The "Export Sign Location Schedule" is a report that is devoid of any formatting. When exported, this worksheet provides a clean delimited text file that can be easily read by Microsoft® Excel and database programs such as Microsoft® Access and FileMaker®.
A: The "Sign Location Schedule" is a schedule that lists in a single report all the signs in the drawing.
A: The "Sign Location Schedule by Layer" allow you to create individual schedules on a layer-by-layer basis. Instead of a single report listing all signs in the drawing, it allows you to separate reports for each layer in the design, that is, a report that lists all signs in the first floor, a separate report for all signs on the second floor, and so on.
Q: Can I customize the schedules?
A: Yes, the Sign Location Schedule is in Vectorworks "worksheets." There is detailed information about customizing worksheets in the Vectorworks manual. Alternatively, we can customize the worksheets for you.
