Wentworth Institute of Technology Chooses VectorWorks 11

Columbia, Maryland (August 3, 2004)—Nemetschek North America announced today that the Wentworth Institute of Technology has selected VectorWorks as the CAD software for its laptop program. This program outfits students with laptops that have the necessary software already installed. The program was created for a variety of reasons and recognizes the need to; align students with contemporary office practices, provide a standard hardware platform for instruction, provide a standard software suite which is meaningfully integrated with the needs of the Department curriculum, and facilitate mobility of the working environment. The program has started out with 750 laptops and hopes to increase that number to include all students and faculty in the future.

Glenn Wiggins, Ph.D., AIA, Department Head and Professor of Architecture, Wentworth Institute of Technology, stated, "We chose VectorWorks because of its power and versatility combined with its gentle learning curve. Our curriculum also places priority on student acquisition of 3D skills. VectorWorks skillful integration of the 2 and 3 D environments facilitates this process and makes learning both easier and more enjoyable which is the final reason why we chose VectorWorks. The program is easy to learn, while still having great depth for students who wish to pursue it more fully."

During the pilot year the program will cover the first 3 years of the Architecture Department curriculum. In subsequent years students will bring laptops from previous years to upper division classes, thereby covering the entire program. Notably, Wentworth has a two year refresh whereby students receive a new computer at the end of their sophomore year.

Founded in 1904, Wentworth Institute of Technology is an independent, co-educational, nationally-ranked institution offering career-focused education through 16 bachelor's degree programs in areas such as architecture, computer science, design, engineering, engineering technology and management of technology. Wentworth's unique three-part experiential learning model combines classwork, laboratory/studio work, and cooperative education to provide students with the hands-on approach to learning. Additionally, Wentworth is a member of the Colleges of the Fenway Consortium, one of Boston's largest academic collaborations.
