VectorWorks Users Win At AIA-NYC and AIA-NYS Design 2005 Awards Columbia, Maryland (November 21, 2005)Nemetschek North America is pleased to announce four of its New York users have won honor and merit awards in the AIA-NYC and AIA-NYS Design 2005 Awards. Audrey Matlock Architect, Marble Fairbanks, SPaN, and Leven Betts Studio each received awards in this year’s design competition. Divided into three categories—architecture, interiors, and projects—all submissions were either products of New York City-based architects or were located in the city. Judges sought social and environmental responsibility, as well as an integration of architecture with landscape. Audrey Matlock Architect, with Gensler, won a citation for design for the Armstrong Visitors Center, in Lancaster, PA. “VectorWorks was tremendously helpful in designing the trusses to support the large perforated metal façade, as well as delineating the logo on the façade,” says project architect Mark Blumberg. Marble Fairbanks won an honor award for a new slide library space for Columbia University’s Department of Art History and Archaeology. The project was undertaken in conjunction with the Graduate School of Architecture, Preservation and Planning, using the school’s CNC milling machine to produce the project’s components and a team of students to assemble it. “VectorWorks enabled me to quickly and easily generate explanatory drawings for the construction crew and easily imported and exported data to and from our computer fabrication model,” explains Jake Nishimura of Marble Fairbanks. “VectorWorks’ ability to work well with other programs and its ease of use allowed me to work quickly under very tight project deadlines.” SPaN – Stonely Pelsinski architects Neukomm won special jurors’ recognition for the KeySpan Energy Video Conference Room Prototypes A and B. “VectorWorks allowed us to test our design both as a simulation of the room itself and as a simulation of how the various cameras and projectors would interact with the participants in the space," states SPaN partner Peter Pelsinski. Leven Betts Studio won a merit award for the Mixed Greens Gallery. Designed by architect Stella Betts, the project was a renovation of an existing gallery space in New York City.
